I've learnt a lot of the mechanics of this game, there is no one way of doing it but I found some things work better than others, planning in advance is the main key when planning to go large reach that illusive 2000 population achievement.

Planning your Satelite villages Layout and tips
Planning is not available in Forest Village so what I did/do is place all potential building/s and then just pause it. till ready to expand. This is an example of a starter village. Population 8 and have placed my planned buildings in front.
A satellite village should start off just like the starter village, with about 4 small shacks upgraded or 1 house. Barn Warehouse well / Pyre. Remember when the game started? that is like a satellite village you should aim for that size, just add in the buildings as the groups expand connect by roads. Here's stage's of my main game Harthwaite.
Stage one first village
When old villagers die they are replaced with new babies. So you can last a long time with a small satellite village as you expand with fields orchards between them. Gather a lot of resources to meet the new demands of a larger population before expanding. Expanded first village example.
As our population grows while it's below 300 it's easier to monitor satellite villages, like in our real cities there is like villages everywhere out in the suburbs. They all have a school and doctor near by. A cemetary / church but Forest Village doesnt have them so we must use pyres. Or a crypt.
Second village
They will all have a school and doctor near by. pyres. Or a crypt. 3rd and 4th village connected by dirt road each village has the same buildings as the first
Harthwaite expanded villages.
Population 1006.
Population 1010.
Video of my main game Harthwaite fully expanded with a population at 1007.
Storage and Use Guidelines
There is a few tricks I learnt and will share with you to be aware of. Keep your village info menu up on the left to keep an eye on everything happening.
Use teenagers while your starter village is growing and until you have enough resources to expand.
Tip:
Use the ALT key to fully pause the game system stops. So long as mouse isnt moved it will remain. Okay back to teens, they can cut down trees help build buildings gather resouces all in first person of course. They donot have any developed tools yet and as we have only so many good quality to start with this saves them, at the beginning use the teenagers a lot. I possess them a lot as their tools are nor developed yet they won't wear out.
I gather as much wood as I can then build my mines as soon as possible.
They donot die very quickly in first person state. I look in the homes to find them. here's how I do this.
Age factors into how fast the villagers work. The older they get the longer it takes. Check your villagers ages and where needed remove them from their jobs and replace with younger. Insure the field/mine hunters gatheres etc is using local villagers.
Pull everyone out of their jobs in winter or when you wish insure you have local villagers working in that local area, the trick is to wait until they have gone home, follow one or just wait a night, the game will then release them for that job.
You can now re-assign new villagers in the village profession window that live close by. But check the houses first if youhave any young teenagers if not build another house in that area. Remember old are replaced with new babies born. If there is no room to increase you will see baby died at birth.
My suggestion, please don't have free villagers. Employ then all, use free villagers with work in mines /orchards /fields /gatherers/Herders bakers, anything then they don't replace any that die.
Life Is Feudal Forest Village Mods Non Steam
If work is needed in an area possess one instead by grabbing them and do the work yourself in first person.. MindIllusion has coded the game to auto assign any free villagers to replace those who die.and that means they can come from anywhere. They will replace a deceased worker even if it's on the other side of a map. Taking into account their need to eat and gather food for home get new clothes or tools they do a lot of walking and often.
Most often they end up on the other side of the map to work, trying to walk home to do their coded ritual of eating supplying home with food or need for new tools tools or need clothes they may starve to death or die of hyperthermia especially during winter time when temps go below 2.
Keep your fields places of work in supplies close by with storage and houses. Use the pack mules to move resources. This may help you understand why you see some starving.
Educated villagers will work longer and take less breaks.
Guard fields and Pack mules with stone towers upgraded or watch towers as they both shoot noy only wild animals but also Raiders.
Life Is Feudal Forest Village Mods
Place excessive resources into Castle Market. Use Pack Mules to transport resources from Castle Market. Beer is one. The pack Mule will actually drop off beer into the Tavern. We can always move house by destruction and build new ones. Only babies or kids aged 1 or 2 will die as they cannot relocate.
How I do this. Build a larger house and at 99% pause it, go over the shack and click the destroy / deconstruct, teenagers and adults only!! that will make those villagers homeless unless you have a vacancy somewhere. Go back finish large house as it will only take a few minutes. If that builder decides to go eat at 99% grab him in first person and press 1 to speed up and finish building.
Homeless villagers will move in.
Upgrading:
When upgrading a house note that all free villagers will gather the ingredients for that building, the builders just stand by and wait 'when there is free villagers' otherwise the builders will gather teh supplies themselves. Do not upgrade or build if you have roads being built. Build roads in small sections. Priority doesn't work. Workers will not leave road building or tree cutting or any assgned tasks we have set until it done.
Useful info:
- The warehouse holds wood logs, raw Iron, Hay Stone, Clay, Oats.
- The Barn holds many things so far I have> Firewood, Meat,Fruit, Vegies, Bread, Honey, Oats, eggs, clothes,Grain,Wool,Flour. Fish, wheat, herbs charcoal. Cast Iron, tools,. I may have missed some.
- Now take into consideration that cows eat hay. stored in warehouse.
- Sheep eat hay.stored in warehouse
- Pigs eat Oats stored in Barns
- Chickens eat oats stored in Barns
- The Tavern uses oats to make alcohol.
- So lots of oats will be needed.
- Build a field nearby these with storage suitable.
Play at speed x 2 or x 1 and only do bursts of higher. Save often and delete auto saves as they can grow in amounts and each save increase in size as the population grows. Always save before building a structure or terraforming so you can go back if it fails.
I make a copy of the entire saves folder for Forrest Village and stick on a USB expansion drive that is 5 terrabytes.
I do this often.
Try not to use Mods that alter the UI. such as building types / decorations if that mod fails after an update those mods cannot be disabled without removing all those items first. Otherwise the game will not load if those mods are disabled.
