Am I alone to feel like sophons are the weakest race so far. I've tried every race. The sophon's bonus feels so underwhelming and they start scientist but they doesn't have any kind of production bonus and there native planet is neither forest nor water nor dry. You are boxed into some dust start with trade route/market in order to be able to compete early game with other empire. I wonder if it's just me but in the current build the Sophons are really weak and i can't blame them as their a more peace loving faction then the other factions who are in it for life force, greed, or just war in nature.

I started playing during the free weekend and I'm loving it so far, however, I'm playing my first real game right now after abandoning my learning game due making too many mistakes and it's almost coming to a close. I'm playing Sophons (obvs) and I've dominated the galaxy in every way possible, I'm currently running my Exterminatus fleets around blowing up homeworlds of those who do anything against me (in the Cravers case just existing was enough) completely unchallenged as I've yet to see an enemy fleet with a single carrier or even an attack value over 8,000, yet I'm sitting with 4 major fleets with between 50-70,000 attack & 6-10,000 troops, along with several smaller defending fleets with 5-15,000 attack, and two Death Star fleets with maybe 18k attack over 4 supporting hunters.
I'm playing on normal difficulty at turn 158 on the fastest speed settings by which the game says this match should be over by now yet none of my opponents have more than a few low-tier medium ship techs at best and very little in the way of anything else it seems.
I didn't strangle my opponents or harass anybody other than the cravers and pirates in the early game, I never even really made contact with anybody until turn 80-100ish other than the Unfallen who were my allies due to me being essentially land locked (in space tho). By all measures I played a very turtled game trying to figure out how things worked, it wasn't until turn 130ish that I waltzed into enemy or unaffiliated systems and started my Death Star rampage with only 1 carrier equipped with a planet cracker and 2 hunters with a combined strength of just over 9k.
So the only way I can think of that I've gotten such a lead is by the Sophon special ability that gives me -50% on tech timers if nobody has research that tech before, which looking back, seems ridiculously OP as once you've gotten a lead you pretty much can't lose it, especially if you prioritise getting the bottom win tech that gives an extra -20% on tech timers and pick up some of the quests along the way.
Are Sophons OP or is this par for course on a normal game? Or is the AI just shit at fleets?
EDIT: By turn 160 I've now actually finished the entire tech web...
